The Pro's & Con's of an Aztec Airbrush...
Posted by armorman on Monday, September 5, 2005 10:20 AM
hi all-

I just picked up an Aztec 4308 Double Action airbrush from a garage sale for REALLY cheap. I was wondering how good an airbrush it is. I know this subject has probably been beaten around this forum many, many times, but I nedd your help. I use an Anthem 155 for most of my work but it would be nice to use it for the detail stuff and use the Aztec for large (I have done some 1/32 stuff lately). I have heard really good things and bad things. I had an older Aztec model and I have to say it cleaned up extrordinarily well. That is one thing that I think Aztec has aced. My question is... What do the pro's amongst this forum think? I appreciate all the information you can give me! It appears to be a sweet little airbrush and has pretty decent balance...

I'm not a pro by any mens, but I too have used both the aztek and the 155. The 155 does everything better. Especially large areas it lays down the paint better and smoother than the aztek. My 2 cents [2c]

I had an aztek. I don't anymore.

You may have had the old ones where the innards were actually metal, the new ones the innards are plastic. Unless you enjoy screaming and pulling hair out of your head, I suggest you stick to the 155.

My first airbrush was the Aztek A4709 set that came in a nice wooden storage box . The airbrush body was the plastic type , which sprayed quite well . Unfortunatly I droped the airbrush , cracking the plastic inner-sleeve near where the siphon bottle connects to the airbrush . Resulting in air blowing into the siphon bottle and no paint being suck up . I was so angry with myself , I had only been using the airbrush for 18 months and paying $360.00 for the airbrush set from the hobby store in Sydney , this was an extremly exspensive stuff-up . I then check this Forum site to get the best advice on a replacement airbrush and the general consen'sus was the Badger Anthem 155 , which I ordered over the internet from Dixi-Art in New Orleans . Perhaps sometime in the near future I may buy a replacemnt Aztek airbrush [The metal body A480] since I still have all those nozzle's and accessories. Parting with the cash is the hard part , the Badger 155 is working fine , but it would be nice to have a back-up airbrush just-in case .
