Thanks for the info... I know I read that lacquers had to be used over primer b/c they are so hot and will destroy stryene, but that must have been in regards to using automotive lacquers for 1:1 cars on models. That's a bit much for my skill level right now.

Tamiya paint is a type of synthesized lacquer. I'm not going to go into detail about what it is. You do not need to prime before applying lacquers. Lacquers can easily cover in one coat. Don't apply lacquers over acrylics that haven't had a week to dry. They may be stripped or damaged.

Their primers are laquer. I thought they were enamels but someone mentioned that they were laquer and I found it on the Tamiya site somewhere. Don't remember exactly where I found it but it is there somewhere.

Laquers do not need to be primed. They are their own primer.

Tamiya spray paint... laquer or enamel?

Another piant question... is Tamiya spray paint a laquer or an enamel? I get different answers from the guys in the model stores; I haven't found the answer using Google, either. If it's laquer, then primer is required, right? I get different answers to that one, too, regarding Tamyia "laquer" spray paint.
