100 or Hp-cs
Posted by Anonymous on Monday, September 12, 2005 7:53 PM
I have a aztec a470 and am looking for a new airbrush. I want an airbrush that can paint a base coat with as well as paint the finest camoflage. I have narrowed it down to a badger 100lg with medium and fine tip nozels or Iwata eclipse HP-CS. Im wondering which of these airbrushes can paint finer lines.

Thanks for any help

Nick - what type of modeling do you mostly do? Both will put out mighty fine lines which I imagine wouldn't be easily distinguished just by looking at it with the naked eye or without a grid or incremtns to compare to... If you do a lot of 1/48 aircraft that type of detail might be a little overkill... nice to have but not absolutely necessary. Either one would work fine for 1/72 I imagine as well...

Basically it's not the width of the line but the ability of the airbrush to keep the smallest area of paint delivery with as little overspray as possible that is important to us in the modeling field as far as detail work...

Nick, I've never used an Iwata, but I've mighty pleased with the results I get from my 100.

Probably works out a lot cheaper too!

Thanks for the advice guys. I mostly model 1/35 scale armor but also occasionally make 1/48 scale aircraft. Does anyone know which of these airbrushes produces less overspray.

They are both really close as far as the smallest lines are concerned and as always that is also dependant on the hand controlling the airbrush.

In my experience with both airbrushes (HP-CS and Badger 100LG), I have noticed that I acheived the same 1/32in line with the Badger as I did with the Iwata. The only real difference I noticed was the price of the two....go with the Badger, you'll save money.
