Enamels and Badger 100LG
Posted by cj95 on Monday, September 19, 2005 11:07 PM
Im in the market for a 100lg but I noticed on Badger'ssite that this was not reccomended for enamels, but acrylics only.

Is this true? I prefer Enamelsand would hate to change.

Thanks for any advice

Where does it say it is not recommended for enamels? Confused [%-)]
I think you are assuming something other than what it says. Wink [;)]

CJ, according to their airbrush application guide on their website, they don't seem to recommend the fine needle 100's for use with enamels, but the medium 100's do get an enamel recommendation.

I assume then that enamels have larger pigments that won't as easily slide past the fine needle and tip? If that is the reason for Badger's recommendations, the problem is with the paint and not the AB, so I wouldn't worry about it. When I was still using my Aztek, I did some experiments with the fine tip, which I believe that Aztek also recommended against with enamels, and found that it did work but was more prone to clogs.

Andy is right, it's most likely just the pigment size and the fine tip. Enamel, laquer, or acrylic works just fine in a 100. I have one and I've used all three in it.

100G fine needle and enamels
Posted by Anonymous on Tuesday, September 20, 2005 12:46 PM
I bought a Badger 100G w/ fine needle recently and used Model Master enamels on it. No problem doing mottles. Now if you guys are telling me acrylics works even better on my set up, I'll have to give it a try but I'm completely satisfied with it as is.

My paint inventory is 95% enamels but I may be switching to acrylics as I order refills just for it being less toxic.

I've been using a 100LG with the medium tip for the last few months. I only use ModelMaster & Floquil enamels with it & it works just fine, no problems at all. I have seen some posts indicating a problem with the fine tip & enamels, but I have no personal experience with the fine tip.
