Opinions on these two Badger airbrushes please
Posted by zokissima on Thursday, September 22, 2005 11:05 AM
Well, I'm just about ready to start looking for a new AB. My price range is around $100 CAD, and I found these two on offer. I've heard great things about Badger, in terms of reliability especially.
What can any of you say towards the:
Badger 175-7 Crescendo (dual action)
Badger 350-4.

BOth come in sets, with all three tips.

If you do fine line work or free hand camo and you want it in a Badger, then I would recommend either the 100/150 series or the Anthem. I find it hard to get really good lines with the Crescendo although it does a good base coverage.

I would probably stay away from the 350. It looks like a cheaper version of the Paasche H. The H is a really good unit, and for that style of air-brush, I would go for the Paasche H Set. The set comes with three tips, small and large bottles (good for varnishing wood), and a heavy duty airhose. At about $50 USD, ( don't know exactly what our exchange rate is these days) but that should undershoot your stated budget considerably.

I'd go with Bear Air (www.bearair.com) or Dixie Art (www.dixieart.com). I've ordered from Dixie Art several times and they are great. Problem is that they are in New Orleans Tongue [:P] They are still open and doing business, but I don't know how all the mess down there has affected their shipping.

zokissima: have a look here http://www.currys.com/
You may be within walking distance of one of their stores.Big Smile [:D] They have a really good selection of Iwata's and some Badger and Paasche.
I'm sure they will have everything you want if you want Iwata - and no duty.

For Badger, I would go here: http://www.webairbrushes.com/
They have a wide selection of Badger and Omni and provide top notch service for Badger or Omni parts as well.

To do research on their relative spec's. go here for Iwata http://www.iwata-medea.com/products/index.jsp and here for Badger/Omni http://badgerairbrush.com

from what I read on their website, dixieart is taking orders as long as they're at least 45 dollars from one vendor (badger, paasche, etc.) and the vendors are drop shipping for them. If you're buying a complete airbrush, the 45 bucks won't be a problem, but if all you're buying is a couple of parts, it's not gonna happen from Dixie right now. WIsh 'em luck in recovering from the hurricane!

Thanks for the info everyone. Gotta spend some time considering what's worth the money, what'll bring the most bang for the buck.
BTW, thanks Richardl, that first link is great, these guys carry pretty much everything I'd need, and are fairly close to my location.

You don't need all three tips and needles for modeling really so if it is possible I would just buy the 175 Crescendo with a medium tip which will be able to do anything you need for modeling.

Hi,
I ordered my new airbrush from dixieart.com a week ago, I already received it!!! I have ordered from them in the past and would HIGHLY recommend them. Their prices a much lower then bearair's. Besides, they do not charge ANYTHING for shipping for orders over $45. The selection is not as vast, but they have what you need. I have ordered (3) airbrushes from them, Badger 100LG, 150, and 155 Anthem. I have ALL the airbrushes that ANY modeler needs, (in my opinion). Hope this helps.
