When using a sonic cleaner do you just place the parts from the airbrush that you are able to take apart?

I ended up ordering Master Airbrush Cleaning Kit just because it seems like you need to be able to scrub the barrel out without submersing your airbrush. Also went with the Iwata Cleaning Station so I had something to spray into at my bench. We'll see how it works.

I would take your airbrush apart on occasion and clean it really good. All I use are Q-Tips and pipe cleaners. Soak them in Lacquer thinner for enamels, or paint thinner for acrylics, and go to town. One thing I like to do is to get a small dish and put some lacquer thinner in it and let some of the parts soak for awhile before I start scrubbing them. It makes the work a little easier. A good wipe down on the outside will also keep the airbrush looking fresh and make it a lot nicer to handle, no paint sticking to you and things like that Big Smile [:D]

Is it necessary to have the cleaning brushes to get the airbrush totally clean or could I rely on just flushing it with airbrush thinner? Thanks

Thank you! I was actually considering the Mack airbrush cleaning kit--I appreciate the endorsement. Found it for a bit less at airbrush-depot.com:

but...I was holding off to see what other people were using. The Micro-Mark kit looks good, too, and cheap, but everything looks pretty consumable--I like having reusable stuff.

I appreciate the recommendation...

I'll make some general recommendations:

Thinner- Appropriate thinner for the paints you are using.
Gloves- Use solvent resistant(don't use laytex if using non-acrylics) to clean the airbrush without getting thinner on your hands.
Microbrushes- Tiny brushes that can be used to remove paint from small crevices.

Here is a great airbrush cleaning kit.

Here is another pretty good airbrush cleaning kit.
