Opinions on Paasche
Posted by Anonymous on Tuesday, September 27, 2005 10:49 PM
Looking at picking up the Paasche VL in a deluxe set in a wooden case for about $89. I don't know much about airbrushing, but I've been told that this is almost considered an industry standard for beginners and such. Any opinions? I can spend more, so let me know what is a good way to go.

I have a Paasche VL and I really like it.

It's a vary versatile brush that's easy to care for and very popular. Quite the work horse.

The down sides:
Detail: You can get some Badger and Iwata brushes that will put this thing to shame while still being able to handle wider areas. The Paasche VL is a very versatile brush though. But that is comparing a siphone feed with gravity feeds.
Pressure: The VL takes more pressure to atomize liquid. So you'll be spraying at a slightly higher pressure than other possible choices. This will only be an issue if you have a VERY wimpy compressor.

Pros:
Durable, easy to clean, easy to get parts, etc.,.
Popular and time tested design - beloved by airbrush T-shirt artists
Versatile - with the right needle in place you can spray almost anything.
Common - should be able to find a deal on it. They're still recovering from Katrina, but defintiely check out dixieart.com if you live in the US. Free shipping and a great price.

Hope that was helpful,

Nathaniel

I don't live far from Dixie Art, so that is where I was going to get it. Luckily, they are high and dry, so they should be up and running soon.

Like I said in my earlier post, I can spend more, so what would be a better choice without breaking the bank?

Thanks a bunch for the info.

What are you going to be spraying through it?

I've heard very good things about the Badger 155. And the Iwata HP-C Hiline. And the Iwata Eclipse.

What do you have for a compressor?

I actually have two compressors. I have a medical compressor that can actually run 24/7 if it needs and is very precise as far as the air pressure. I also have a small pancake compressor that is pretty strong. I have the compressor covered and can get it set up any way I need it.

I was looking at the Iwata's too. Heard some good stuff on them.

Thanks a bunch.

I have a Paasche H and love it...never any problems and it cleans up nicely. Single-action, though, so that might not be a consideration for you.
