The paint is dead-flat. Should it not be satin?

Hi
For the first time I have build an aircraft: Italeri Super Hornet (I usually do armour - but it was a birthday-present ).

Now, I have painted it using ModelMaster Enamel colors (Light Ghost Grey and Dark Ghost Grey). And it is dead-flat?! I thought the color was more like satin?

I started to put on some decals, but it did not look good so I stopped. How should I precede? Is there a "satin clear" to airbrush on?

Thanks for any help Shy [8)]

BTW, it's very hard to see any difference between the two greys?Question [?]

That is the correct color. It is flat gray. Prior to decaling, spray several light coats of Future over the model. Let the future dry and then put on the decals. Decals work best on a gloss surface. After the decals are dry shoot future on the model again to seal the decals. After all is dry you can spray a dull coat on it to bring it back to the dull state. The actual aircraft had a very dull finish which would get very dirty from everyday use.

Brake6,

You can use any clear gloss paint you want. Berny13 just mentioned Future floor wax because it is cheap and works well.

You can use Testors glosscoat if you have that there.

Hi everyone

I get something called "Floor-polish" which contains Wax according to the label. It looks like milk.

I sprayed two layers on a scrap-model (using a old AztekWink [;)] ). After drying the surface is satin/semigloss. Looks quit good to me if you want a satin look. Smile [:)]. I think I will use this.

Thanks for your help.

i live near an airbase and once in a while i see a plane or two and i must say i have modeled the exact planes these planes never see action as with at least half the airforces units so they are clean an well kept i use a mix of 90% flat coat with 10% gloss mixed it looks more like the jets at the base not quite dead flat planes that see action dead flat would definetly dead on
