Fading SEA Camo Paint
Posted by Anonymous on Monday, October 3, 2005 4:10 PM
I'd like to know how to simulate faded paint on Nam's SEA camo pattern. I'm building the Trump 1:32 Thud F-105D. I would appreciate any help. Thanks

you could take a VERY thin mix of the main paint color and spray it from 6" or more away from the model over the entire upper surface... it will kind of blend them all together... OR take the lightest color (the tan)and do the same thing...

I am talking about a chalk water looking consistency... 4 parts thinner to 1 part paint type thing...or maybe even more thinner... you just want to see a colored thinner pretty much.. I did it on a kit recently and it helped it look a ittle faded but also helped blend in very different colors (light grey and middlestone, it almost looked like a Reno racer before I did that)

Sign - Ditto [#ditto] to what Tho9900 said. I do that too. After your done if you want it lighter or more faded just go over the whole thing again.

I forgot I had these in my photobuscket still... here's the plane I was talking about:

Before:

After:

you can see it muted it somewhat... I sprayed the uppers with middlestone with a dab of light tan added with about 90% thinner, and the lowers I just used the same thin mix of the light gray and hit the demarcation line between the colors... it helped blend the two together...

---edit---

as you can see in the second shot I it on TOP of the decals as well to fade them out and not let them look so vivid....
