If anyone has any additional info on this model, is it loud (for a man with a wife and 6 week old) and does it just sit on the floor, or is it supposed to be mounted on a work bench? I have previously looked at the Airstar V, but I really cannot afford a 100 dollar compressor, my wife would kill me. So am searching ebay all the time, I just recently missed out on 2 great deals(just my luck) so if anyone can help, I'd truly truly appreciate it

CM - that would work fine for modeling, but with a 6wk old it might be too loud. Something more appropriate with one that young in your house might not be easily found for less than 100 dollars.

However, if you built some sort of sound proofing in a box (with adequate ventilation) you should be able to cut down the noise a bit. I use a computer desk to model at, and I finally decided to put my compressor (similar to the one you showed) in the area where the tower would normally go. It cut my noise by at least 1/3, I plan to put egg crate on the walls to the sides and top, and perhaps enclose the back with wood and egg crate as well leaving the front open. It won't be perfect but I think it will help a lot based on the reduction of just moving it somewhere semi enclosed.

Good luck! Maybe you should check into getting a CO2 cylinder or something. I know several here use it and it is completely silent!

I have that compressor. It's a bit louder than a vacuum, but more distinct in the sound it makes. I could easily see it waking an infant.

I have mine on the floor. For noise reduction, suspending compressors is about as good as it gets. I'm contemplating suspending mine under the desk I use as a modelling station.

Is getting a big air tank and filling it at the service station an option?

I found something on Evil Bay, the guys auction ended but I think that we are going to work something out, plus I get a beater AB with it so I can practice before I use my Badger 155
