Sorry if I am asking question that has been answered. I use Model Master enamels pretty much 100% right now. $7 + for a small can of MM airbrush thinner just seems out of line. What would be the alternative from the local paint store, without reducing the quality of the paint? Mineral spirits? Turpentine? Turpenoid? And is that the same as odorless turpentine?

I prefer mineral spirits. Cheap and works fine.

Lacquer thinner is best. Its cheap and gives a dead-flat finish as well.

Laquer thinner and mineral spirits will both work very well. My preference however is Dupont 3812s Enamel reducer. I've used it for years and it works very well with MM, Testors (small bottle) and Humbrol enamels.

In what proportion must you thin the enamel paint?

OK, so you can just buy a regular bottle of testor's paint, then add mineral spirits to keep the finish glossy, or lacquer thinner to make it flat?
