Alclad II Warning
Posted by Anonymous on Thursday, October 13, 2005 2:22 PM
Although the directions of the bottles of Alclad II say "Shake Thoroughly", don't get carried away like I did this afternoon. I was "vigorously" shaking a bottle of Polished Aluminum when the BBs broke through the jug leaving me with a Polished Aluminum hand. Fortunately I was able to save the remainder of the bottle; always helps to have a clean empy bottle lying around. I guess the trick is to be more gentle in the "Shake Thoroughly" department.

Rich
In the majority of the bottles of Alclad I've purchased there are a couple of BBs or steel ball bearings in order to shake up the paint, or in my case, to break the bottle.

I haven't used a lot of Alclad, but in the three bottles I have there are no BB's either. Maybe that's why they stopped putting them in there Tongue [:P]

Sorry for your troubles, and I Appreciate the warning, but the mental picture is killing me!

You really don't even need BBs in the Alclad bottles. The paint is thinned enough so just shaking it will mix it up.

BBs are either BBs, little round balls used in BB guns, or ball bearings, different sized balls used for multiple purposes.

For years, I used bbs for years to help stir paint (until someone gave me a 25 lb bag of #12 birdshot - it works great). The only time I ever had a bottle break was one night when I was out of bbs. The only thing I could find to use as a substitute was some quarter inch nuts. Put 4 of them into a jar of Pactra flat purple (new jar) and started to shake - next thing I knew I had purple paint all over my self, the bench, the model, the walls and the floor - bottle was still in my hand in four distinct pieces - wife still reminds me of that particular fiasco on occasion.
