what kind of clear coat do i use for my acrylic painted model? at walmart they mostly have enamels, no acrylic primer or gloss though. i was thinking of using a spray can of enamel highgloss clear. would this work? thanks

Yes it would work. Enamel clear coats can yellow over time. I wouldn't use it over light cool colors.

If you want to expand into the hobby more, you should considering looking for nearby hobby shops, or online hobby shops. They sell many different types of gloss clear coats.

Another option is to pick up some Future at Wal-Mart. It can be found with the other cleaners/waxes and cleaning tools in the grocery section. It is an acrylic floor coat and not a wax. It is basically the same thing as clear acrylic paint, but dries slower and has better self leveling properties. Just apply a coat of it using a brush or airbrush and cover it with a plastic container to dry lint free. Multiple applications are neccessary for high gloss finishes.

enamels over acrylic yes, acrylic over enamel no. acrylics eat enamel bases. especially if not dried properly. Futcha is your best bet..

Uh, other way around, Luis. Acrylics are the "Mildest" of the three (acrylic, enamel, laquer, in that order from Mild" to "Hot"). Be careful spraying enamel or laquer over acrylic, or laquer over enamel. The first couple of coats should be very light mist coats to build up a base, then it can be applied a bit heavier.
