Im using the basic metal paints....nothing like the metallizer which would probably have been more inteligent since they are designed for airbrushes.Dunce [D)]

I just got done spraying the cheap tiny Testor bottle of silver thru my Badger 100G with fine tip. This was my first attempt and I would estimate thinning about 80% paint to 20% thinner. I had a little trouble with splattering but other than that, all went well.

Gold and the like colors in the little 1/4 Oz bottles are notorious for going on thick, so spray in Very light. Also, you may want to consider picking up Dull aluminum from your hardwarte store as a base for your metallic and gloss paints.

Are you talking about Testors/MM Enamel Metallics, or MM Metalizers?

Make sure you are using the proper thinner and you will need to use at least a medium tip for it to spray right.

Like Bill said, you are going to have a tough time getting metallics to go through that fine tip. The pigment in them is just too large for that tip. You might try getting the paint very thin and using several coats but I don't think that will help a lot.

I've yet to try metallics through my AB, but I'm willing to bet the fine tip is the trouble point (pun intended).

You can order a medium needle, tip and head assembly (PN# 50-0162 $14.45US) from Badger. The assemblies are interchangable.

This could also be the excuse you need to buy another AB altogether! Wink [;)]

So long folks!

Airbrushing Metal Paints.

Quick question.

I've never tried airbrushing metalic paints......Testors Aluminum and gold....etc and I noticed that it very quickly gummed up my airbrush to the point that it was clogged.

I cleaned and repeated the procedure with more thinner only to have the same results.

Do I need a special paint for spraying metallic color, or am I just unlucky.

I use a Badger 100LG with the fine tip that my wife got me for my birthdayBig Smile [:D]Party [party]Big Smile [:D] (and I love it)
