                        Hi, i am new to this and i was wondering if it is ok to use general purpose turpintine from the supermarket to thin my enamels or do i need the special thinners from the model shop?

                        Hey Delorian Welcome to FSM! try it frst if you want. look at the effect if the paint is mixing properly with it. what type of enamels are you using? i use tamiya enamels and they require tamiya enamel thinner for best results..

                        I always mix turpintine from the supermarket with my Revell enamels, works fine, the paint dries much faster aswell.

                        Thankyou for the kind welcome, im using Humbrol enamels. Are they a good brand? I tried to find Humbrols website but cant find it. Do they have one?

                        Humbrol paints are manufactured/distributed by Airfix. The Humbrol paint chart can be found here

                        A cross-reference chart for matching Humbrol colours with other brands can be found here

                        Mineral spirits also work great for thinning enamels.

                        Plain old lacquer thinner from the hardware store is great for cleaning up after painting and cleaning airbrushes too...
