If the plat on the belt is metal you have to sand the or rought up the surface them you have to prime it with a couple good coats let it dry ans wet sand it smooth dont go down to bare metal you sould sand with 600 grit and work tords 1200 ultra fine then you can base coat the center of the belt. hope it helps.

Best way to paint/airbrush metal?

I'm a college student, and am part of a pro-wrestling club on campus here. As a "federation" we have our own title belt, and since I thought it needed a little work, I offered to bring it home over our next break and repaint it. I'll be using mostly Alclad II paints (specifically a whole piss-load of chrome, some prismatic for the center logo, and gold around the edges of the plates) and then probably some Tamiya paints for the words around the edges of the center plate, and also for hand outlining the lettering.

However, I have no idea how best to paint the bare metal. Should I first prime the entire plate, then layer up, and clear it over the top (clear to both protect and make the color-shift that much more pronouced)? Or do I just spray the bared metal with the paint? Should I prime, then throw down a flat black base?

Here's a picture of the title as it stands right now. I'd peel off all the stickers currently used.

Any help would be more than welcome.
