My New Iwata Airbrush
Posted by Anonymous on Sunday, November 6, 2005 5:54 PM
I just received and started using my Iwata HP CS airbrush. I had owned a Paasche VL previously. I will admit the Iwata cost about $50 more than the Paasche. However I had found that I was having trouble using the Paasche, probably mainly because I am a relative novice at airbrushing. But I would say from my initial reaction and the bit of time I have put on the Iwata that it seems to make airbrushing easier and more controllable. I hope that this is mainly the difference in brushes right now and not my lack of skill. Another thing is the Iwata seems to clean easier after use. The Paasche always seemed to be such a problem keeping clean. But whether that is really true or not I should find out in the next few weeks. Anyway, I just wanted to share my thoughts so far if anyone is considering buying a brush. There is a fair price difference but I think the quality of the Iwata is better from first reactions and worth the extra money.

Awesome! Your reaction and results are typical as others have likewise trstified after using the Iwata Eclipse CS. That was my initial results as well after a long relationship with the Azteks, Badger(s), Paasche(s) and a few other off-brands. It was like, all-of-a sudden I was an expert...fine-lines with ease, excellent paint flow, easy cleaning (faster), and awesome atomization with varying viscosity hobby enamels, acrylics, etc. Yeah, I'm still very impressed with the HP-CS. I now use exclusively, Iwata's Revolution CR. Same great results, but have the money. I'll post pics of my lastest model later using the CR. It is Hasagawa's 1/72 AV-B Harrier "VA-231", Desert Storm 1991.

Keep the radar on!

same here... I went through an Aztec, a Badger -350, 155 Anthem, 175 Crescendo then picked up the HP-CR from Iwata... it felt good in my hands the first time I held it! While I still use the 175 for broad coverage with acrylics (it's much more forgiving and give less tip dry when painting large areas) The Hp-CR is my main brush doing everything from detail to Alclad, Future and whatnot...

---edit--- to clarify, the 175 only gets pulled out for things like the FW190 in 1/32 for the base coat... or the 1/48 Bf110... the HP-CR does the rest..

Congratulations on buying that brush and I am glad you like it! I wouldn't throw away the VL for the same reasons I still have the 175... you may get in a situation where it works better. I am sure eventually I will learn to do enverything with the Iwata but for the meantime the 175 still has my back.
---Tom--- O' brave new world, That has such people in it!

I have an HP-CS also, but it just sits in a drawer. Tongue [:P]

I own 6 airbrushes. I have 2 Badgers, 1 Aztek, 1 Omni and 2 Iwatas. I have an Eclipse BCS (bottom feed) for general coverage, and an HP-C+ for fine lines. I wish I had started with Iwatas it would have saved me some money and a little frustration. The only ones I use are the Iwatas. Mostly the Eclipse, but for detail work the C+ is awesome. Pencil thin lines right out of the box. Terrific balance and feel, ease of use and cleaning, super atomization, really good control and absolutely top quality as well. Worth every penny, IMHO. Enjoy , rkoenn.Big Smile [:D]

I started out with a $20 cheapy airbrush, which did ok.

Purchased my first real airbrush, an Aztek 4709, and much to the shock of a few people I liked it alot.

Managed some really decent kits with that one.

Purchased an Omni 4000, and was very happy for a couple of years, but needed more.

My latest purchase was an Iwata HP-BS with Preset Handle, and I have to say that it is the best feeling airbrush to date.

It really does the things I need and ALOT more, worth every cent IMHO.

The Omni will still get alot of use, really is a great brush for the price, but the Iwata is now more choice for detail work, like squiggle camo and mottling in 1/72 and 1/48.

Because I am not that impressed with it.
It is nice but I prefer my Badgers.

Mike

Felt the same way about my Iwata's until I got a Harder & Steenbeck Evolution.  Blows the Iwata away (pardon the pun).

I have a dream, that every chap here who thinks Iwata is better than Badger, and every chaps who thinks Badger is better than Iwata, goes to buy a Harder & Steenbek Evolution, and tells what he thinks of it
...
Unless one thinks that H&S is better than Iwata, the other one that Badger is better than H&S, and so on...
Not speaking of  Aerograph which produced a new airbrush recently...
