Newbie Questions regarding painting camo

Still a good idea i think, Im in no hurry.

MSlater, Don't thank me so fast.  The play-doh does work good but it sticks to the model.  When you pull it off some small specks will be left.  Wait for them to dry (about a day) and flick them off with a toothpick.  It's kinda tedious to do.  I don't think the color matters.  Maybe mixing some talc with the play-doh would prevent if from sticking so much though.

Thanks for the tip also! I never even began to imagine using playdoh to mask a camo pattern. Now I can rob my wifes acrylics and my sons playdoh!!! Any color work better than the next? :)

As far as the Mosquito colors, there are alot of people in the aircraft forum that know lots about that but what you said sounds about right.

Personally I would strip the old paint before anything but that is optional.  An alternative to brush painting is spraycans (spray lightly from a distance of at least 1 foot) but I have seen many brush painted models that are very good.  For masking the patterns there are many ways.  My favorite is play-doh.  It does stick some to the model though.  Silly putty is also good.  Rolls of tape are also good.  For the tape make long rolls with the sticky side out like thin tubes.  Put them on the model to conform to the pattern outline then put paper cutouts on top that conform to the outline.  Because the edge of the paper is off the surface it will produce a soft edge if you use a spraycan.
