You should be able to apply decals over Future in 4 hours or less

Yep, for mad builds I have the decals on within half an hour after future with no problems but I didn't want to suggest that in this thread.  One day is generally the consensus cure time for future on models thats all I meant.  I just works out that way.  Put the future on then next day do the decals.

Interesting way to think about it.  Of course, we generally don't brush MicroSet on the floor before walking on it...at least, not at my house  Smile [:)]

The gloss coat under the decal is the most important factor when trying to avoid silvering becuase silvering is caused by tiny air bubbles caught under the decal. (from the "flat" paint)

ok, but will setting solution help to avoid silvering? and, if for some reason i do get silvering...will a coat of future correct it? the model i'm currently working on is the Finemolds Jedi starfighter and it has a "lot" of decals..

Sure, you can use gloss paints and skip the 1st Future application. I don't do that becuase it's a pain in the arse to get gloss colors for what I need...most "military" colors only come in flat. Also, gloss takes longer to dry than flats, even in acryl. (but not as long as enamel gloss)

One more thing...the extra coat of future helps when applying sludge washes. It's an extra layer of protection for your base coat. (not sure if it really makes that much of a difference.)

Hey Luis,  In my experience I found that decals go on better on a good gloss paint rather than future.  The thing you need to watch out for is full curing.  Future only takes a day or so.  An enamel gloss can take weeks.  I painted a model with scalecoat II gloss (railroad color), it is an excellent paint but it took 3 weeks for the smell to go away (fully cured) but after that the decals went on excellent.

EDIT: opps I reread your post and you said your re-doing with gloss acrylic.  I can't comment on that, never tried it.  what I said above applies to gloss enamels. sorry.

just gloss paint before decals..

i am currently on a build.i use acrylics. i have done the priming and base painting.. but during the process, i didn't like the base color that i used(call me stupid for not testing it first, the color looked good on a test subject but i didnt like it on my model)
anyway, i didnt want to re-paint the whole thing by stripping it. i'm going to use a gloss white acrylic(Tamiya) as my new basecoat(covering the old one),
question is can i skip the future application before the decals to avoid the silvering? can i just place my decals over a gloss white paint? will this be enuf to avoid the silvering? i know i should do the future coat, but i'm afraid i might have too many coats of paint on my model and it might cover the nice details.. i still have to do the future coat after decals for wheathering..and a final flat coat for the seal.. thats:
1.primer
2.base coat
3.base coat (new)
*decals*
4.future
*wash*
5.future flat..

thanks for the info
