Vega 1000?
Posted by Anonymous on Friday, November 25, 2005 9:45 AM

I’ve been looking for a detail airbrush that can spray very fine lines for under $150 bucks

I’ve searched around a bit and the Vega 1000 seems to fit the bill.  Does anyone out there have this AB and if so how does it work for you?  I’ll be using almost exclusively acrylic paint.  I’ve looked at the AB chart that Badger has and the Vega 1000 is listed under “Hobby” as being good for some applications.  Why is this?  The AB round-up in the Feb. ’04 FSM says in the beginning of the article that the Vega 1000 is a good AB for laying down small amounts of paint in thin stripes(1/72 armor camo).  Dose the not-so-good rating in the badger chart just mean that the AB is only good for the above task?  I’ll stop babbling now and hopefully someone will be able to clarify things for me.

It depends on what you are painting.. if it is mostly 1/48 and 1/35th I would venture a guess to say it would do fine, (MikeV could answer this better) if you want more detail as in 1/48 German aircraft squiggle patterns and such or 1/72 aircraft, maybe the Badge 100LG would fit the bill?  The last time I looked it was around $70 give or take.  You could get the medium tip and nozzle (it comes with the Fine) and be able to handle almost any job.  Not to knock the Vega, I'm not real familiar with it and I don't know of too many people using one, it's just I know several people with the 100LG who are happy with the work it puts out.

The Vega 1000 with the fine needle will spray very fine lines, yes.
The Badger 100 is capable of even finer lines in trained hands because of the micro-tip but for modeling I think the Vega will suit you just fine.
