Cleaning Future out of an airbrush
Posted by In The Woods on Sunday, December 4, 2005 12:26 PM

I have a question for the group about cleaning my airbrush:  what do you recommend to clean airbrushes after you run Future through them?  There is a recommendation on the bottle itself for a mix of 1/2 gallon of water, 1 cup of ammonia, and 1/4 cup of floor cleaner.  I'd rather not run floor cleaner through my airbrush if I can help it.

Thanks to all who reply.

With best regards to all,

Steve Mack

Windex or any other ammonia-based window cleaner will work fine.  It's the ammonia that does the trick, the water just washes the ammonia away.

also try rubbing alcohol.  that's worked better than amonia for me.

I use Windex almost exclusively for cleaning acrylic paint and Future out of my ab.  Luis is absolutely right though, once you have broken down the ab assembly for a clean, just feel it to see if it still sticky.

Cleaning any clear coat out of an ab is a bit of a pain and requires a little extra care due to the simple fact that you can't see if there are any deposits left.  Yes I know that's a bit of a Captain Obvious but its still true, for me anyway.

I use generic spray on window cleaner, followed up with a dose of Tamiya acrylic thinner.

Works every time.
