My poor Santa Maria
Posted by Anonymous on Friday, December 9, 2005 1:07 PM

Well,

This should come as no surprise from a newbie, but I have made another mistake.Sad <img src=" src="/FSM/CS/emoticons/icon_smile_sad.gif">

My Santa Maria looks like it has been in a snow storm.

I have been painting this beauty for a couple of weeks now. I use on acrylic paints. On Sunday, I wanted to put the top deck and hulls together. So today I painted on my first flat clear coat.

Oh my. Now it is all fogged over. All of it. I do not know what to do now. I am not sure if I will sleep.

I am hoping someone will have some clue as to what may have happened and more importantly, what I may be able to do to salvage this.Confused <img src=" src="/FSM/CS/emoticons/icon_smile_perplexed.gif">

Details:

Several layers of acrylic flat paints.

Flat clear coat: Mr. Hobby TOPCOAT

Last acrylic painting session 36 hours ago.

Thi has not happened the other times I have used this.

Let me get some sleep and put me out of my misery by giving me some upbeat news or idea.Question <img src=" src="/FSM/CS/emoticons/icon_smile_question.gif">

I guess I shouldn't have been joking with Vapo about his Victory build!Banged Head <img src=" src="/FSM/CS/emoticons/icon_smile_banghead.gif">

Thank you,

Robert

Thats a bummer sorry to hear about it.  Try some 70% isopropyl alcohol.  Put a SMALL AMOUNT on a cotton swab and wipe the cloudiness away VERY VERY LIGHTLY AND QUICKLY (not yelling just emphasis).  Go over it a 2nd time if you think you need to. In some spots you won't get it all and in other spots you may wipe away a little of the base coat.  Your essentially stripping the layer of dullcoat off the top with this method with the risk of stripping away more than you want.  I've used it before because of the same problem and it works ok.

HTH good luck with it. Which kit is it?  I built a Santa Maria but it was a long time ago and I don't have it anymore.
