A question on metallic paints
Posted by overkillphil on Sunday, December 11, 2005 3:23 PM
I've noticed that Testors/MM metallic paints, particularly aluminum and steel never really look right in scale.  The 'flake' or whatever you call it is really too large to be realistic.  I know Alclad/Metalizer does a better job, but they aren't practical for detail painting.  So the question is this:  Do any of the other paint manufacturers produce metallic paints that are more realistic than the Testors brands?

I like Citadel acrylics.   Some of their metallic colors have very fine pigment, but others are somewhat on the large side.  I've also been known to airbrush even a single small part with Alclad when I want a good metallic finish.  Takes a little time and effort but the results are worth it.
