Gravity feed vs Siphon question
Posted by rossjr on Thursday, December 22, 2005 1:30 PM
I have used Siphon feed airbrushes forever (more than 30 years), I recently picked up a Badger 360 and attempted to us the gravity feed mode and noticed, what I would call a splat on the first uses with the brush between long pauses.  When thinning the paint for gravity feed use, does it need less thinner or I am simply using too much air presure?  Better yet, am I way off base....

What pressure are you spraying at?
Normally the thinning ratio is about the same for both siphon-feed and gravity-feed airbrushes, although the siphon-feed do need more pressure to reliably draw paint out of the jar or color cup.

I had this problem with my Badger 100LG, a gravity feed airbrush. I think it's caused by an accumulation of paint in the tip.

I partly solved the problem by frequent wiping of the tip during spraying, and giving a quick stab of a spray away from the model just before spraying the model proper, especially after a pause in spraying.

I thought the cause could be too thin a paint mixture, or the needle not far forward enough in the paint tip. I readjusted mine and it worked.

This might help - I hope!Big Smile [:D]
