Other acrylic thinners for airbrushes.

Besides Tamiya and other proprietary thinners for acrylic paints, has anyone used acrylic thinners that you can pick up at large stores like Lowe's, or Home Depot, or some of the other home construction places?  It seems that I could save some money if I bought the stuff in quart or half-gallon quantities, rather than the steenking leetle bottles that are available at the hobby shops.

thanks to all who reply.

With best regards,

They should work, as long as they are for acrylics and not acrylic lacquers or acrylic enamels. You can buy Model Master Airbrush thinner in pint cans to. Another alternative that I have had good luck with is thinning with alcohol, it works pretty good, doesn't smell great, but it works. You can also use water as well, but I haven't tried that, so I don't know how good it will work for you? Good luck.
