You might also want to try the idea suggested in the February FSM, of using some colored Glad cling wrap and attaching it to the clear part with Future, drying, then coating with Future again. I know that stuff comes in green, pink and yellow, not sure about gray.

Yeah, that is usually the cause of OP with spray cans. It should work better in the airbrush, either way you go about it, sounds like a win, win situation!

Thanks, I'll try it. From what I'm finding about lacquers, it seems that the orange peel I'm getting may be from getting too thick a layer at a time. I'm thinking of collecting the paint from the spray can and then using my airbrush.

Hmm, sounds like the lacquer might be the problem. Try using tamiya smoke. You would have to airbrush it on, but its acrylic and I have had nothing but good luck with it!

Black window tint lacquer problem

I'm building a Hasegawa S-3B Viking and have tried spraying ModelMaster 2949 Transparent Black Window Tint on the canopy, but it keeps drawing into a network of fisheyes. I've washed the canopy with detergent several times, I've removed the previous attempts with thinner (to the point where it slightly frosted the plastic and I had to buff it clear again), but the same thing has happened 4 times now.
Is laquer incompatible with the clear plastic? What should I do?
