Sign - Ditto [#ditto] on the props to Testors customer service.  I needed some MSDS's for some of the testors, model master, and floquil paints and they mailed them to me at no charge!!!! and without a question.

Actually it's a legal requirement (in the US) for companys to give you the MSDS's if you request them but they still did it for free and it was much appreciated at the timeThumbs Up [tup]

Airbrushing with enamels is much easier, they're less likely to clog in your brush and when dried form a more lasting finish.

Using acrylic retarder or a thinner that contains retarder will alleviate a lot of the "Dry Tip" problems associated with acrylics.

As to the more lasting finish, you are comparing enamel to plastic.  Enamel may be harder, but I'm not sure about "more lasting".

I love tamiya's acrylics but just wish they didn't cause such a fuss with my airbrush...plus they scratch easier and are less resistent to masking than enamels.

A good coat or primer will completely eliminate any masking problems with acrylics.  Acrylic paint doesn't adhere well to anything smooth, it more tends to form a coating over it.  A coat of enamel primer will adhere well to the plastic and the acrylics will adhere well to it.

I haven't had any trouble with acrylics? I understand how they gum up and can cause problems, but for me it just hasn't happened? I use iysopropel alcohol to thin them with. I have used Tamiya, Model Master, and Testors with no problems. Maybe I don't spray as much or as long as others do? I can see where they are a bit more fragile, but I haven't had problems with them pulling up the tape either? Maybe I am just lucky?Whistling [:-^] One thing I like about spraying acrylics is that they are non-toxic, which is nice since I work in the house with nothing but 2 windows to pull out the fumes. I am scared to spray my lacquers in thereDead [xx(]

I agree eizzle,

I have a bunch of acrylic colors that I use as well as my model master enamels, but once the acrylics are gone, I'm not going to replace them.  Airbrushing with enamels is much easier, they're less likely to clog in your brush and when dried form a more lasting finish.  I love tamiya's acrylics but just wish they didn't cause such a fuss with my airbrush...plus they scratch easier and are less resistent to masking than enamels.

Take care,

Doug

I really like their paint line. All you have to do is find the FS number for the part or scheme you are painting and then look for that. It quite a bit easier than trying to figure out if Tamiya's Gull gray is darker than Polly Scale's gull gray? I have never had a problem with any of their paints, which is about all I use anymore.

Testors Corp.: Great customer service

Dear Forum members,

I have had the opportunity to communicate with individuals at the testors corp. through the purchase and use of their products.  In doing so, I have always been completely satisfied with their willingness to assist me in any way possible.  They have gone to generous lenghts to resolve many issues I've had with model products and finishing products.  I would highly recommend their products and if any concerns arrise, you could be confident in knowing their customer service is quite capable.

In particular I would recommend their enamel line of paints which in my opinion are among the best and largest selection available as well as their adhesives.

Additionally, you might consider some of the newest releases by Italeri including their Abrams M1.

I would expect many agree with testors' products can be trusted and if all else fails are backed with a great customer support staff...

Hands down, they have handled concerns better than most other manufacturers I've dealt with.

Thanks for everything testors corp.

Doug
