tamiya and revell color

Tamiya Buff is a shade of tan. Does it have an FS number anywhere in the instructions, or do you have referencee material that would give you an FS number? If you can find one, go here and check it out

hi eizzle, no there is no FS number, and i already tried that site to match the color but it doesnt say. Its a tamiya kit, SAS pink panther. Im stuck till i know the right or closest color....

Well, the next easiest thing to do might be run down to the LHS and pick some up. If you need a dealer you can go here to find one

should get you the Tamiya > Revell reference, but their site is down for the moment. The site eizzle posted (Ooooh, another cross reference <ctrl-d!>) doesn't list a Revell match.

There were hackers busy crashing "military" related severs yesterday, and some aren't back up yet. I'm glad and surprised FSM stayed up and running!

thanks for ur replies guys. My problem is that i dont want to switch to tamiya colors at the moment till i use most of my revell colors (244 tins lol) and ive not used acrylics yet, so id need to practice first to get the hang of it (personal confidence). I hear revell has been discounited anyways?? I guess i will have to go through the colors and match it as best as i can. Im dying to get this model done :) present for a good friend ;) Anyways, ill look at the site u posted bgrigg....thanks for ur time guys

You can always go to Tamiya's website, they have a color chip paint list, then match to what you have in your stock

just an update...

Having no luck with the revell range i got some humbrol colors, color 85 and 225, mid stone...I think one of these are the closest im going to find without using tamiya itself (though will switch one day as these fumes cant be good for u lol)...

u can mix revell enamel with humbrol right??

Do you mean mixing them to get a certain shade, or just painting the Humbrol on over the dried Revel paint? Painting it over the dried paint shouldn't cause any problems as long as the other has had time to cure. Mixing them for a certain shade might cause problems, but I would doubt it. Diffrent companies sometimes use diffrent chemicals in the paint which can react and cause problems, so you might test it first just to be safe! Tamiya acylics have a smell all their own, let me tell ya, it is diffrent from enamels, but they still stink

hi eizzle, yea i was meaning mixing together, not a coat on top of a coat. Like u say ill need to test it first i guess, buts thats a shame lol

Ah c'mon you mean that you dont absolutely love that alcohol smell in Tamiya paint??

You cannot mix enamels and acrylics together. Acrylics are water based and enamels (more or less) oil based. It's as true here as anywhere else, oil and water don't mix. However, you can paint over any paint with any other paint as olng as the first paint is dry. This works best when airbrushing. I routinely fire a coat of Dullcoat laquer over figures painted in Andrea/Vallejo acrylics with no ill effects.

Is the Humbrol an acrylic? If so than Ajlafleche is right, they can't be mixed. Sorry, I didn't think about that, I guess I just assumed the Humbrol was enamel?

I used to leave 3 or 4 bottles open on my workbench every night so my whole work area (bedroom?) would smell like that, but then the cat came and the plan kinda went down hill from there

hi guys, no there all enamel paints. Common sense tells u u cant mix acrylic with enamel ;) so u rekon u can mix humbrol enamels with revell enamels?? Still stuck lol as model has to be close to 100% as poss..without switching to tamyia, which at this point seems like the sensible idea...
