I mix em up all the time. Its probably kind of bad practice but sometimes I like them better or they are the only type with a color I need. I have no problems painting over them in small areas. If you try and paint a enamel over a large area of acrylic you may start to get an effect along the lines of trying to color plastic with a Crayola marker. Use 2-3 thin coats to get around that. I have not had my acrylics be eaten by my enamles either.

I do much prefer enamels though. They take longer to dry completely but I don't need to deal with them pealing and the sort.

24 hours should be enough, however, if its a pretty humid climate you live in,  you might want to let it sit longer as the paint won't dry as fast with humid air. Glad to help and happy modeling!

Thanks eizzle, that helps me out. I usually allow paint jobs to sit for 24 hrs. before I do anything else unless I'm some kind of hurry. Appreciate the info.

You should be ok as long as you let hte acrylic dry completely. Put it on in light coats so there isn't a huge amount of chemicals trying to attack the acrylic base coat. The only problem I can for see is if you are brushing it on, then its will be a little tougher, simply because you are rubbing the acrylic that is getting softer from the enamel, but other than that it should be fine. Good luck Tugcap!

Using Enamel & Acrylic together

Question [?]Hey All...I normally use MM enamel paints for my airbrushing but I am in the process of building a M113A2 and want to use NATO colors as that is the theme in an upcoming contest. The only NATO colors I could find are the Tamiya acrylic. After getting on the acrylic coats will it be ok to cover any parts with enamel paint without first adding on Future or another type of sealing? I should know about this but I don't. Thanks for any info.
