10-4 on the brush painting. That's exactly what I did. Saved myself a bunch of work. You can see the end results on the a/c forum. Look for "1st time pics", 2-16-06. Thanks.

NMF will weather to a flat finish in a rather short period unless it has a protective coating over it (wax or clear coat)

the good thing is since it is futured there is less a chance of pullup from the masking..

Good luck!!!

Thanks Tom. I was afraid I might hear that answer. Oh well, time to get out the masking tape.

Hud - I think the flat would take away the metallic look of the NMF.. I hate to say it but I think masking would be the way to go.  The flat would also give a 'haze' effect to the NMF...

Flat finish on NMF ?
Posted by hud on Tuesday, February 7, 2006 8:23 AM

Hey to all,

Does anyone use a flat finish for the final coat on NMF ? I'm not sure if I should go that route or not. My a/c has invasion stripes on the bottom part of the fusalage and the bottoms of the wings and also has anti-glare surface up front of the cockpit. I know the anti-glare is to be flat but what about the stripes? I'm assuming so. I'm trying to avoid having to mask the NMF to finish the flat areas ( at this point everything has been sealed with Future ). Would it be "politically correct" to shoot the entire thing with flat final coat? Wouldn't that defeat the purpose of having the sheen of a NMF finish? Or did the real a/c have a matted appearance to them?  What's the best method here? Thanks in advance.
