Tornado Desert pink?

Sorry I can't help you with the ratios for Revell paints, but I do work with a guy who used to work in Saudi Arabia for the RAF on Tornados during that time period. He tells me they used whatever beigy-pink paint they could get, because one or two missions later they would be painting them again. The sand was that abrasive on the paints. He also said they painted with rollers, over the gun muzzles, etc. as they didn't have time to do proper masking.

Ahhh, didnt know that....well thats cool atleast its not a special shade. Though i would need to mix a tan with the  pink right? as its not exactly pink is it?

Some purist will come along and say it's FS 32079 as God and Queen meant it to be.

I think you'ld be "close enough" with Tan and a touch of Pink, maybe Flesh would be a better to choice to mix with the tan?

My co-worker was given a model of the Tornado as a parting gift from his "mates" when he left the service, painted Desert Pink. As soon as he got home to the UK, he stripped it down and painted it Dark Grey over Light Grey as he was sick and tired of the pink! It sits on his desk, as he proud of the model and the time he spent in the Air Farce, as he calls it.

I can't help you with Revell, but my references list Desert Pink as Humbrol Hu:250, Xtracolor X:X3, Pollyscale P:PCA826 (810), or Gunze GS:H346.

If you can get it then Xtracolor is definitely the way to go.

hi darson, thanks for the reply. I have xtracolor paints but i dont like em, find it hard to paint with. I got US Army helo drab (4 tins too) for my apache, i tried different ratios/pressure, wasted 1 tin trying. Dont like xtracolors at all. So humbrol do it in 250, thats cool ill nip to the store were they sell humbrol (dear shop, ur £1.45 a tin:( ) cheers for that.

Hi guys, just thought id update on this....

I mixed revell paints together and got desert pink almost dead on. I mixed 12ml flesh (35), 4ml ochre (88) and 3/4 of a ml matt black (8), and its almost dead on, well chuffed :)
