What kind of flames? Real ones? The classic kind you see on cars and motorcycles?

Mask the flames then paint the primary color (frisket would work best).  Using your airbrush on very low flow and volume of paint, barely shade the inner part of the flame where you want the other color to go.

This is a poor example but the only one I could find quick on google that wasn't copyrighted:

The yellow would have been painted first, leave the masks on then shade the tips and curves at the middle...

Here's where you can see some real fire, but having seen Mike Lavallee in action on some Discovery Channel specials, I suspect it might take a while to match his technique!
