Humm...

It was definately - lacquer paint and lacquer thinner that got mixed together?
Not an enamel and a lacquer?

Lacquer should not be sprayed over enamel as it can have an ill effect (cracking, peeling, blistering, etc...).

What effect are you trying for? What was the semi-gloss coat... clear?

Lacquer paints dry somewhat dull and rough and need to be color sanded/polished smooth.

If the underlying surfaces still look fine, it's probably something regarding the mixture of paint and thinner. Sounds like something wasn't compatible with each other. Possibly a chemical reaction in the fresh paint. Check the bottle of MM and see what thinner it recommends using.

No I don't think.

I removed the Semi-gloss coat with hot watter few minutes after seeing this (it was dry to touch, but still not 100% dry) and the carbon is still perfect, glossy. The carbon was also well cleaned before spraying (removing all Microsol left) I also had this problem on Black enamel paint that was on the same part I was spraying. So, same problem on 2 types of carbon and on paint..

I really don't understand why..

Could the lacquer have reacted with the Carbon Fiber Decal?

Maybe the solvent was too strong for the decal material, ate away the top coating of the decal and got into the underlying decal fibers...??

My 2 cents [2c]

Hi

I have a small problem that I never seen before. I used Model Master Semi-Gloss Lacquer this morning over Carbon Fiber decal and I had a strange reaction.

I don't have picture of it (I tried to fix it as quick as possible) but just imagine using a "kleenex" and rub it to the surface. It leave small white "fibre" in the paint, just like residue. I thinned it for about 2.5:1 with lacquer thinner, it sprayed nicely in my Iwata, the result while painting was great, but after few minute leaving it in a closed (dust free) compartment, it had all kind of white fibre.

If you have any idea what would have been the problem...
