Pix had also noted some of the color shades from WEM seemed a bit off....I have used them before and thought them ok....Meteor Productions now carries some of them if you want a closer source--  I think his main selections are VVS colors too...

hmmm. the MM line is less accurate than the WEM line but we all know color accuracy is BS anyway. The MM stuff also has a narrower selection. WEM stuff sprays absolutely wonderfully and I'd reccomend them if you could get your hands on them.

Monster, I have seen these paints, and they are duly noted. I was kinda looking for something a little more "domestic", like I can get at the LHS. However I may have to break down and buy the whole set of WEM paints... Pixilater over in the aircraft forum said they worked pretty well. Enamels vs. Acrylics is not a problem for me... I have a respirator and a spraybooth so everything's good there. I doubt I'll be buying a Soviet bird in the next couple months, so if anyone has any ideas about Model Masters, I'm listeningSmile [:)]

If you're really hardcore I recommend trying VVS enamels from White Ensign Models from the UK. Modelers are raving about the color accuracy and quality of these paints although some people complain that they're enamels and so many modelers got used to Tamiya acrylics. Also, drying time is measured in days rather than hours and some modelers desperate to get things going place the painted models over space heaters and such. Nonetheless, if you can live with the drying problem these are supposed to be fantastic. Much of Soviet aviation lacquer production during WW2 came from a Moscow factory called Aerolak. The White Ensign series is based on documentation from Aerolak. You may have to import the paints directly from the UK; the price in American dollars per container is from $1.50 to $1.90 (approx.)

The full line of the VVS paints from White Ensign is:
  • ACS01 - AII Blue

  • ACS02 - AMT7 Blue

  • ACS03 - AII Green

  • ACS04 - AII/AMT Black

  • ACS05 - WUP Interior Primer

  • ACS06 - IMUP Metal Primer

  • ACS07 - ALG-5 Metal Primer

  • ACS08 - AMT-4 Olive-Green

  • ACS09 - AMT-1 Light Gray

  • ACS10 - AMT-1 Dark Gray

  • ACS11 - AMT-11 Blue-Gray

  • ACS12 - AMT-12 Dark Gray

  • ACS13 - Tractor Green

  • ACS14 - AE9 Gray

  • ACS15 - AII Light Brown

  • ACS16 - AII Dark Brown

Howdy, partners. I've heard that Model Masters has a line of colors to match WWII Soviet Union paint schemes. Can anyone point me to the right direction? Thanks!
