I am just wondering, what exactly is Satin Black? all the models I have seem to require it, yet no one sells it. The guy at the local hobby store told me it's basically semi-gloss black, so I bought that as a replacement.

I haven't done a model in probably 15 years, I don't remember satin black at all ???

Your LHS guy is right.  It is a semi-gloss black.  Satin and semi-gloss are synonymous for paint finishes.
