Any problems with Dixie Art?
Posted by MikeV on Friday, March 10, 2006 12:45 PM
I was wondering if anyone here has had any trouble with Dixie Art lately?
I heard a few people on the airbrush forum I go to say they are finished with using them.
I have bought things from them in the past with no problem so I am wondering if things have changed with their service?
Not trying to start anything or spread any rumors, I am just curious. Smile [:)]

Hehe. Figures I see this post right after placing my order with them. Smile [:)] This is my first order with them so I will let you know in a few days. I ordinarily order from Bearair but DixieArt had the 100LG for 64.95 shipped.

Sorry my friend, I knew you were ordering from them and didn't want to make you feel uneasy.
Some of the people on that other forum are buying supplies for their job as airbrush artists too so they are probably a lot more critical of things being on time.

Ah. Well if its just time thats the issue then I can live with that. I've got more time than I do money. Big Smile [:D] I was hoping that it wasn't a bunch of folks not getting their order at all or damaged or something. I know that they're down in NOLA so I can forgive a little time as I'm sure things are still messed up down there.

Mike,

If I were going to order from them again, I would probably call them before ordering to see how they are doing on filling orders these days.  New Orleans is still pretty messed up, and this, along with the holiday season, caused a significant delay in an order I placed back in Dec.  My mailing address is a military APO, which caused problems since the USPS office they use was destroyed.  APOs will only accept USPS, and they were shipping UPS.  After calling them, though, we worked it out by having it mailed to a relative, who then mailed it to me across the pond.  They were very helpful on the phone and things went quickly after the call.  I was a little peeved, though, that they didn't email me and let me know why the order was delayed, but I cut them some slack given the Katrina situation.  Overall, I was very pleased with the order once I received it, and would order from them again based on my experience, but only for things I didn't immediately need.  Mine is a special case, though, so if I were in the states, I wouldn't hesitate to do business with them.

Thanks Jeff.
I am not considering buying anything from them at this time, I was just curious if what I had heard was true.

The mess with the post office being destroyed (among many other things) has things looking bad over there.  Feb 15th I mailed something to my mother in law near N.O. from only 300 miles away in TX and it took till March 2nd to get to her, usually it takes 2 days.  I'm about to order from them again with the expectation it will be late.  I understand the airbrush artists being anxious though with deadlines and all.  Still though, once things go back to normal they should have the same fast service as before.  Not only the post office but a lot of the other logistics around the area are just now getting up and running well again...

I ordered a 100G plus various accessories & spares late last month.  I got all the items I ordered within 3-4 days.  This was my first order with them and I can't say I had any problems.

I ordered a HPC-Plus from them back in december. It arrived only a couple of weeks ago.
Did mail several times and asked regarding the order status using the sites form, yet found it extremely difficult to get an answer. Also, the site mentioned that non-US orders were delayed, which surprises me greatly.
Living in the Netherlands makes it less attractive for me to call them (time-difference and moneywise). So considering all that, I will not order from them again.

Just my two cents.

I ordered two months ago and got the items within 2 weeks max.  All airbrushes and parts were there.  No problem at all.

Sign - Ditto [#ditto]

Called them this morning, having placed the order last night, because I forgot to add spare parts. They do seem a little harried, but they found my order in processing and changed it. One thing I learned was that they download all their web orders periodically. If you order late in the day or at night, the order won't start processing until the next morning.

I'll try to remember to post here with results, good or bad.

I understand the concerns of artists, but I also consider the source, since I know and have known many in my eccentric career. For no few of them, inspiration comes first, execution second, and foresight and planning a distant third. It's not that they are slow or vague, they just march to the tune of a different drummer—which is why the good ones are sources of wonder and delight.

Commercial artists are in even worse shape—they have to try to be inspired and creative while working for the anal retentive and unimaginative. They really have my sympathy.

I ordered an airbrush from them in December, the week after Christmas and I got my order within 5 days I think. There didn't seem to be any problem or delay ordering from them then.

Just wanted to say that my airbrush arrived today. No snags. They were a little iffy on responding to emails but they have an 800 # and answered my order status with no issues. I would order from them again.

Cheers

Mine also arrived Thursday (yesterday, now). The only problem is that the adapter I ordered appears to be the wrong size or defective. It fits the Paasche hose fine, but won't go on to the T&C airbrush at all.

Tried calling multiple times, always got their slightly confused sounding recording. Left a message but no call back today (yesterday). I'll try again tomorrow (today). Confused [%-)]

I love the looks and feel of the Omni 4000 that I bought—just wish I could try it out!

I have ordered from them twice now with no problems whatsoever. I wouldn't hesitate to order from them again, however, their S&H charges are a little steep, but its not bad if your ordering something expensive that has free shipping or something you are going to save a good amount on. For smaller stuff like needles and general parts for your A/B, I would consider shopping an online hobby store. You might pay a little more for the part, but you will probably save some still with shipping! Good luck!

I ordered the Badger 360 and some other items and had no problems. Great prices and fast shipping.

They called by 9:30 on the 17th, and a new part is in the mail, and I was asked to call back if the new one doesn't solve the question. This is good customer service.

I also noticed that they included a card for a local parts supplier—very considerate touch!

The part arrived today—actually, may have been yesterday, didn't check the P.O. box. Can't beat that with a stick!

I'd say they are a great outfit.

And the part works! Waaugh!
