Wow, I checked out Dixie Art. That's a good price for sure!

However, I didn't mention that I got the kit with all the extra stuff in it. Cleaner, hose, can(air), can valve. Maybe that's where some of the extra price comes from, though I won't be using any of it but for maybe the cleaner, which I'm told is for acrylics.

My first instinct was to return it and go with Dixie but in retrospect I think I'll keep this one. My LHS guy gets commision so it helps him out. He's a great guy who has helped me a lot too. And I know it's got to be hard to make a buck in the hobby buisness with the advent of the internet. I like to run up there and pick up a badly needed bottle of glue or paint or Tamiya tape and have it verses waiting a week or so by mail. So I'll just make a mental note, chalk it up to supporting my local buisness and get to spraying and see what I come up with.

And my VL isn't going anywhere. I already sold my 150 (for$20) and I'm told the CR don't do large coverage very well. So for those big planes out domes the VL.

Thanks for the comments!

That is great!
It is nice to support yout LHS. One day there may not be anymore around and we will all have to buy all our supplies online.

Ditto to that.

BUT my LHS only carries azteks (those stock had been there for years).  At the same time the local Pearl art supply store or Michael's charges way too much for their badgers and iwatas.  I was DRIVEN to go online and buy airbrush supplies. =P

They are no longer selling their airbrushes through Bear Air which is one of the largest airbrush sellers in the country. Oh well, their loss. Mischief [:-,]

Rumour on the street is that it may have something to do with the whole Peak vs Iwata thing... but it's just a rumour.

yeah I didn't know you got all that with it... so you only paid a little over what it goes for online.  10 or 15 dollars is worth it to have it right away!  Plus it helps keep your LHS running!

Maybe so Tom but they also sold a lot of Iwatas.
Oh well, no sweat off my back.
As long as the "pros" keep getting payed to endorse them they will continue to gain in popularity.

Mike - I'm not sure but I think it is because they sell several Iwata made, "other" branded brushes on there that are a little cheaper than their Iwata counterpart.  They probably weren't making the money they wanted when someone saw two almost identical brushes but one was 20 dollars less.

As I am the known Iwata "Honk" i will say that one hundred dollar bill price tag is steep. I would advice you to never.. and I mean Eveeeeeeer buy an Iwata brush from a hobby shop, auto paint shop or anyplace that is not Dixie Art (love them) or Coast Airbrush(can get parts with no issues or waits with them). To me the Iwata more than makes up for its price with less problems and the best quality for what I do. If you clean out your brush after each use it will have little if any problems. Blow it out and keep on painting. The key to great paint is persistant practice no matter what tool you use. Heck you can even make that piece of junk aztec perform "ok" with enough practice.Clown [:o)]

What kind of good or bad things might you have to say about the Iwata unit?

Pep talk anyone?

The Iwatas are very good brushes. If there is a down side, it would be the availability and price of replacement parts. I find that the Iwatas require a little more care when cleaning as they are not as forgiving as Badger airbrushes. In fact Iwata recommends that you do not tear them down for cleaning. With all of that said, they do spray good finishes. I'm sure tho9900 will be along shortly to give you his viewpoint. He uses his with acrylic paint and has had great success. Good luck and enjoy your brush.

hk - that IS a very high price for the HP-CR.  I own one and love it.  It does medium coverage fairly well (just don't throw the Paasche away until you get used to the HP-CR) and even gets down to small detail rather well, I was able to satisfactorily mottle a FW-190 A8 in 1/72 with it.  It's very easy to clean and a low maintenance brush.

At www.dixieart.com you can pick up the HP-CR and a hose for about $30 less than what the other guy wanted to charge you for just the brush.  The brush itself lists for $64.95 there and an adapter to fit it to the Paasce hose for $7.95, or $11.95 for the separate Iwata hose in case ya want to still use both without rethreading them back on everytime.

I know a lot of people including myself that have used dixieart and had good experiences with them.  If you have a Hobby Lobby near you they now carry the HP-CR and BCR for about $100.00 but if you wait for a 50% or 40% off one item coupon, you can get it for the same price as Dixie Art.  By time the sale comes around again you'd have probably got yours in the mail from dixieart by then though.  (Oh yeah, it's free shipping on any order over $45 from dixieart so you wouldn't have to pay that.)

Good luck!!!

They are very good airbrushes but I also have a tough time justifying that price for one.
