paasche vs.badger
Posted by ga.retread on Tuesday, August 5, 2003 10:13 PM
I am shopping for my first airbrush, and I think I have narrowed it down to either a paasche vl or a badger 360. They are both about the same price. Also, I want to use a CO2 bottle instead of a compressor since I can get everything but the regulator for free, including refills. Any ideas pro or con? Will I need a moisture trap?

Hi ga.retread.

With CO2 you do not need a moisture trap but the regulator may begin to freeze up if you spray for very long periods which you probably won't for modelling. If it does begin to freeze up I have been told that you can set your CO2 bottle in a 5 gallon bucket with water in it and it will stop the freezing problem.

In regards to Paasche vs Badger that is a matter pf individual choice. The Paasche VL is probably the most widely known airbrush out there and parts can be found at just about any hobby or craft shop. I would say that the 360 is a better airbrush than the Paasche because it is a newer design with a tighter action. There are people who love both. I personally would opt for the Omni 5000 if you want a gravity fed model.

As one who owns a Paschee VL and a Badger 100LG, I would say go with the badger. I'm told that Badger's machining is more precise than Paschee. I like my Aztek better than my VL.

It is funny how everybody feels about their ABs. Some say Paasche and others say Badger...

Kind of like Ford or Chevy...Both will get the job done. Beyond that, it's
personal preference.

I'd take a Badger over a Paasche any day. Wink [;)]

The VL isn't even close to the Anthem. Tongue [:P]

That was not a stab at anyone by the way. It was just a bit of fun.

M1, if that airbrush you use suits your needs then that is all you need and trying any other brands is not really necessary unless you just want to experiment.

It is true as was said that an airbrush is personal just like our taste in automobile manufactureres. I know people who that if they used a Paasche VL and I used an Iwata Micron, they would make me look sad. Talent and practice will win every time over the best products in the hands of a beginner. MikeV is right, it doesn't matter how good the airbrush is purported to be, it is only as good as the person's skills to use it is. Practice, practice, you can't get enough of it. Unfortunately, I practice on my newest project. Disapprove [V] I've owned 2 badgers and enjoyed both.

Yep, get the one that appeals to your 'fancy' the most. I personally have a VL and like it. I also have a Badger 100G, but haven't had alot of time to use it so I can't give you an honest opinion about it. Either one will serve you well with practice and patience.

Glad to hear that my friend.
I'm glad you understood my joke and the reason I had to let you know that it was a joke is because many people on the web read things out of posts that were not intended to be there. When you cannot see the person's face writing the note or hear the tone of their voice, it is hard to sometimes understand when someone is kidding or serious. Wink [;)]
