Need help with Israeli camo and the color FS34424
Posted by MikeV on Thursday, April 6, 2006 2:07 PM
I am going to paint my F-16A in Israeli camo colors and the decal sheet instructions call for FS34424 for the pale greenish color in the camo paint. I don't know what FS34424 looks like sprayed but from the references I have seen it is not even close.
Any ideas for a Tamiya color or should I just mix until I find what I like?

Thanks

Mike, FS34424 on This Chart looks pretty close.  It shows Tamiya XF-21 as a cross reference, however on Tamiya's color chart XF-20 is a gray and not a green.  If their chart is right XF-21 looks a lot closer to me (Click Me!).

Let me know what you decide on.  I've got a 1/32 F-15E next on the bench that will be built as an F-15I Ra'am and I'll need that green shade as well.  I've already got all the goodies for it, just need some time ;)

Thanks Scott.

I came up with the same feeling and I went to HobbyTown USA and bought the XF-21 as well as the XF-23.
If the XF-21 looks too green then I will add a few drops of XF-23 to make it lean more towards a blue tint.

Can't wait to see that 1/32 F-15I Ra'am. Awesome aircraft! Thumbs Up [tup]
I bought a Revell F-15E at 40% off at Michael's today and am going to build it as an F-15I Ra'am also after this F-16A Barak is done.
Decals are expensive though at $26 from Israel. Shock [:O]

Let me know how it works out with the paint, Mike.  I am really looking forward to building the F-15I, they are beautiful birds.  SaltyDog put me onto them, and I've wanted to do one ever since he sent me a photo of one.  (for anyone reading this and wondering what they look like, take a look at This Site)

I got a pretty good deal on mine.  Tamiya 1/32 F-15E, IsraDecal set (as well as a couple of other sets), Cutting Edge exhaust cans, Cutting Edge F-15I Conversion, Paragon Python missiles.  Didn't cost me a dime.  I came home one day and there was a big box on my deck with the kit in it, and a couple of days later all the aftermarket stuff showed up.  The man I'm building the F-105D for bought it all.  I had mentioned to him once that I wanted to build one, and since I wouldn't accept payment for building his F-105 he bought that for me.  I was absolutely stunned.  There really are some nice guys left in the world.

BTW, did you notice that there are over eight HUNDRED decals on the IsraDecal set?  I guess on a per decal basis $26 isn't too bad ;)

Awesome story my friend. Yes he sounds like an awesome guy and reminds me of Ken Schlotfeldt at Badger.
I agree, the F-15I's and F-16 Baraks are awesome looking with that Israeli camo paint.
Not to mention them being possibly the greatest fighter pilots in the world. Wink [;)]

Never met Ken but I have swapped email with him a couple of times.  He does seem like a great person.

I have to agree about the Israelis being great pilots.  They have an inbred aggressiveness that makes them get the best out of absolutely any aircraft they are put into.  They have been using cast-off relics for decades and have always managed to get every ounce of fight out of them.  Everything from Beechcraft Barons to McD F-4's.  It's really good to see them with some first-rate equipment, they truly deserve it.

hello mikey, scott!!  decided to drop by and chat a minute tonight, long time no type i'm afraid.

mike, when i built the f-16a, i ended up mixing my "green" color from a variety of tamiya colors.  i used a color wheel to get me close, then tweaked it in til' it felt good to me.  heck, from the pics of israeli aircraft that i've seen, that green color varies greatly.  you can't go too wrong...............unless ofcourse it turns out florecent or somethin'.

if you remember correctly, thats the F-16 that i was building and somehow lost the WHOLE box that contained the rest of the parts to finish the thing, so i have no reference pics or anything.LOL  later.
