roosterfish,

Did you ever finish The Invaders UFO kit? I'm looking for a lighting kit and parts to do up a lit kit. Need windows and such.

Wow, glad its working for you. I don't think I'd ever pay that much for a flashlight, but they do look well made.

LOL..the lights are not in Wal-Mart end aisles.  I know of a jeweler that displays the KI lights in the display case.

It is all in the quality and marketing.  :)

For goodness sake don't ever let 'em find out about Walmart. It'll ruin yer market! Wink [;)]

$700 for a flashlight? Wow. That's a heck of a margin. Sounds like you hit the right business.

Hi Mike.  I’m back!  For some reason I couldn’t get in the forum for the longest time.  I gave it another shot last night and I must have pushed the right button; I’m in.  I’ve been ‘ghosting’ FSM but I couldn’t get in.

A friend of mine in Japan and I build flashlights as a hobby so we’ve been busy.  Yeah, it is weird but I like to make flashlights.  We make our dreams because we never could find a light that we wanted.  We make and have custom made bodies, reflectors and parts from the head to the tail of a light.  We design, manufacture and assemble the electronics.

Other people like our dreams.  $200 to $700 is what the lights sell for.  There is a forum with almost 14,000 members that like flashlights and we accommodate them.  LOL…we just make the best and most exotic LED lights in the world for the fun.  It is a sin to sell for that high price so we put the premium lights on Ebay and let the world bid on them.  The lights will easily fit in the palm of your hand.

I’m back into modeling.  I’m working on building and lighting The Invaders UFO.

Hmmm….it looks like a remodeling job around this web site.  It is nicer to look at the remodeling from the inside then the outside.

As you can see we get creative with light too.  The $700 two-tone light is called Katokichi Ichishiki Splash Special (KISS) and the other is a $200 cheapie with an olive-green with gold tint light called Maxlite.  :)  There are even more different lights

Any AB will work.  If the nozzle is big enough to let model pigments get through and not clog then an Iwata, Badger or Thayer & Chandler AB will work.  I've tried about all the popular double action AB and they all do the same thing; put a layer of paint on a model.  I'll use any brand but a Testors AB.

Simply go by the price and of the AB and consider the availability of the parts...just in case you have a problem.  The ABs are simple enough that with simple and proper mantainance the AB will last a lifetime.

Hey Roosterfish, how you been buddy?
I haven't seen you post in ages.

I'm not sure about suppliers in AU, I know a user here from Sydney who says that ordering from www.dixieart.com ends up being cheaper than buying the brush there.  One thing you will have to look into is what stores carry spare parts for airbrushes and what brushes they carry them for.

I'm not sure, but I think Iwata parts would be more available with your relative closeness to Singapore (hobby shops online from there would carry the parts).. Hopefully somone from AU could come along and give you some more specific advice.

I'll see if I can holler at some of my friends in the GB's and see if they can help ya out...

-=edit=-

in the general discussion topic there is a thread called "Aussie Modelers"  I bet you could post this question there and get an answer right off!

How about an Iwata Revolution or an Eclypse ?  Another choice would be a Badger 100. All three are great airbrushes. I don't know of any complaints about them. Check out Dixie Art supply before you order.   Greg

I just got a Thayer & Chandler Omni 4000 as my first double action. It comes highly recommended by people who know whereof they speak (Thanks Mike and Tom!). Unfortunately, I haven't been able to try it yet! (Growl, grumble, snarl…)
