Yet another airbrush question thread
Posted by jwb on Wednesday, April 26, 2006 3:27 PM
I've read through quite a bit of the threads on airbrushes and so on. Read the FAQ, etc.

One thing I haven't got a good feel for- is the connection between the AB and a compressor universal? In other words, if I buy an air compressor meant for airbrushes that is brand Y, is it going to hook up to brand Z airbrush?

I'm about ready to spend some money on an A/B setup, but I don't want to buy an A/B and compressor and find they'll never work together.

As long as you have a hose that fits your airbrush, you should be fine. The attachment to the compressor may vary, but you can get adapter nipples at any  hardware store.

The major brands should all have standard adapters to the air compressor side..  Like Ross said, if not a conversion adapter is readily available at your local hardware store, Lowes or Home Depot...

-=edit=-

oh yeah... which airbrushes are ya looking at?  (curiousity got the best of me and I had to ask Wink [;)])

Curiosity killed the catWink [;)]Whistling [:-^]

I concur with Tom & Ross, as long as the hose connects to the A/B you're in businessBig Smile [:D] finding a nipple adapter is easy.

After reading all of the varied opinions on the forum, and talking with a few folks I know here at the office who use airbrushes, I'm probably going with a Badger 175.

Based on what I've read here, it seemed like despite the varied and passionate opinions on airbrushes, Badger looked like buying IBM of old. "No one got fired for buying IBM" was the saying. Sounds like it's the same way with Badger. And the pricing isn't really bad. In fact, I've done enough searching to see that if you look- they're all about the same for same/same features for a reasonable quality brush.

The icing on the cake was talking with someone here at the office who uses airbrushes for varied tasks (including modeling) and has several models, and he really enjoyed the 175, for a variety of reasons that made sense to me.
