Something wrong with Polly Scale acrylic?
Posted by Anonymous on Saturday, August 9, 2003 12:34 PM
Hi experts

I'm trying to airbrush some Polly Scale's US Desert Storm Sand. But every-time it fails. No paint, just air. Well, just one "puff" then nothing.

I have mixed both with distilled water and Isopropyl alcohol (not the same time!). I have mixed from around 15% water up to around 50%. The label on the bottle says "10 to 15%". But every-time the needle is clogged with paint.

I guess it's not me (or the airbrush) because I have no problem with Tamiya acrylic or ModelMaster enamel Approve [^]

Can the paint be to old? I have tried two different bottles.

Brake 6,
Did you strain the Polly Scale before you
airbrushed it? Pantyhose works great or you could use
fine plastic or metal mesh that's clean to strain it. Polly
Scale paints might have very small to medium sized
lumps of paint that will clog your airbrush if it's not strained.
Also if the jar is left open too long without
being capped it will start drying . Cap it soon as possible.
Could be too old or a bad batch.

fuzzy,
that was new to me! I have never heard before that you must strain the paint Blush [:I]

I guess I have to go shopping some woman-stuff tomorrow Cool [8D].

But hereafter I will stick to Tamiya. Do you know which Tamiya color to substitute for "US Desert Storm Sand"?

brake6,
US Desert Storm Sand is FS33446 according to
my source. Couldn't find an exact Tamiya paint match. It will
probably have to be mixed. Try the web site below they list
paint matches and mixed paints from different manufacturers.
