I just wanted to say thanks
Posted by Anonymous on Thursday, May 11, 2006 12:26 PM
I had been out of the modeling seen and have come back to it just recently.  By finding this forum and the many helpful people here I have been able to make some great purchases.  Including my Iwata Eclipse CS, which has turned out to be a wonderful brush, though as of right now I do not have the skill to make the "hairline" width lines as the advertisement, I am quite satisifed that I have been able to perfect small "sharpie" marker lines with it in a few hours.  Your guys tips on how to thin and clean up have been great, and useing windex has made my cleanup time cut in half.

Also wanted to thank you guys for the idea to us an airtank, I bought an 11 gallon husky model and attached an Iwata regulator to it.  I charge it up using my own commercial grade compressor which brings it to 125 psi, in about 5 minutes, while letting me air brush to my hearts content in the office next to my bedroom while my wife is sleeping.

Just wanted to say thanks and keep up the good work, getting us long time abandoners of the hobby to come back.

Cool Blake!  I came back  into the hobby about 2 yrs ago and stumbled along on my own for a bit till I found this place... I have learned SO much from everyone here!!!  It really put me on the fast track to honing my skills.

I also just purchased an HP-CS and have loved every minute of spraying with it!!!  A really sweet airbrush!

i too had learned a lot more about airbrushing and equipments from this forum more than anywhere else on the web.  props to anyone who's out there providing answers and tips within minutes if not one or two hours of the original post.

**********************************

this site also helped me destroying my bank account from buying way too many new model kits and airbrushES for the past half a year.  before this I have only heard of names like Iwata or Badger from ads on fsm magazine and deemed them way too expensive and un-reachable therefore ignored them, so my first airbrush ended up being an aztek (sold for original purchase price on ebay) and the 2nd one being a Tamiya SuperFine (stored up for collection only now... ).

Tom in Particular knows something about paints & A/BsWink [;)]
How's that HP-CS holding up to your heavy hand Tom?Wink [;)]

You will be amazed at the things you will learn on here Blake! I have suprised myself, just trying out diffrent things to make a model look more realistic, like drybrushing... who would have thought? Just ask Ed, I really perfected the art of gluing airplanes to my hand Wink [;)] Seriously though, there are a great bunch of guys here who really know there stuff, just make sure you ask lots of questions, cause that is how everybody learns! Good luck Blake!

eizzle, could that be because of something that was said or done by you?  Of course you usually open the doorMischief [:-,]
I think the best thing I've learned in here is about washing the resin sets down with alcohol & how to  work with the stuff.Big Smile [:D] then of course, the dry brushing & weathering which I haven't tried yet.

Thanks for the great comments, my biggest challenge so far has been been getting the thining of the acrylics down.  I know people have suggested using alchohol, but I find I don't get comparable results to using enamels and regular thinner, I am going to try and use tamiya's thinnner and see if I get finer results.  I wonder if anyone else has had this problem

Blake - that wouldn't be a bad thought.. you can get the large 250ml bottle of Tamiya thinner for about $1 more than the tiny 30ml bottle and it lasts forever!!! (especially using windex to clean instead of thinner)

Get used to the acrylics... get some more time on the AB under your belt and then play with the alternative thinners.. Good luck to ya!!

If you still don't like the way the acrylics thin might I suggest trying a bottle of Vallejo Acrylic (you can get it at www.greatmodels.com labeled "Color of Eagles") which thins with distilled water and paints great.. it is called the "enamel of acrylics" due to a great leveling ability and quality finishes it provides..
