paint masks
Posted by Daytripper on Saturday, May 13, 2006 9:08 AM

Hi,

Could anyone give me any tips on using liquid masks.

I have usually painted a hard edge camo scheme using the old fashioned brush method but have recently tried the same using an air brush. The trouble i have been having is when i peel the mask off the layer of paint leaves a lifted jagged edge. I suspect that i did not leave long enough for the paint to cure properly but i am not sure?

I have been using "MASKOL" liquid mask and Vallejo model air acrylic paint.

Thx DT

I may be wrong, but I remove the mask while the paint is still quite fresh this avoids the jagged edge you are getting. You just need to be careful not to touch the freshly painted areas.

Tecs,

I'll try this next time round, i managed to get round my little problem by using an ultra fine grade finishing stick!!

I had let the paint fully cure then lifted all the masks (there was loose paint every where)then it was a case of gently sanding the loose bits off and as the paint was hardened, the finishing stick did not mark or scratch the existing paintwork. finally used an a/brush to blow all the dust and c*** off.

I think once the decals and future/gloss has been applied it will look ok.

Thx for the advice

DT
