Tinting an amber canopy black
Posted by Anonymous on Friday, May 19, 2006 7:57 AM
Hey guys I picked up an Academy AH-6 little bird kit in 1:48, which with the help of the fine members here has actually been properly identified as an M-500 defender. In addition the canopy glass is molded in an amber color.  I want to tint it a bit more black, to make it look not so ridiculous for the more accurate Israeli TOW defender motif which this bird trully is that I am now going for.  I was thinking dipping the plastic in a wash of indian ink and water.Very little actual indian ink, but many dipps after each drys.

Do you think this will work to give it a bit more of a black tint?

You could spray it with Tamiya Smoke. Just make sure it is well cleaned and free of any oils, otherwise it will bead up.

Ditto what lone jut said... check out about a little more than halfway down the page... this looks like it would do it for ya.. although I am not sure what the black would look like over the amber..
