Looking to complete my AB arsenal - (MikeV?)
Posted by jhande on Monday, May 22, 2006 8:47 AM
I need a little guidance in selecting a 3rd AB. I'd like to add a single action, internal mix to our collection. We (family) do more than just modeling with them so I'm trying to cover all my bases/needs (along with my young sons).

So far this is what's going on -
Have an Iwata Eclipse BCS.
Planning on getting an Iwata HP-CS or an HP-C Plus soon.

Was thinking of getting the Vega 600 from Badgers garage sale for $20, but they are sold out.
So now I'm considering one of these Badger models -
200 NH
200-20
200 G
The 200 NH seems like a good choice because it has the larger bottom-feed paint bottle option which would cover more area between refills. But the 200 G offers the option of finer lines, but I guess that's when I would use my Iwata gravity-feed if I get it first.

Will be spraying base coats, top coats (probably large areas) mostly; of enamels, textile paints - all heavier mediums. Plan on spraying things such as canvas, T-shirts, walls, autos (local race cars mostly), helmets, model cars (one color), etc...

Having all 3 AB's attached to a manifold loaded and ready to spray is the plan of action on certain projects. Air is not a problem, will be using my garage air compressor.

Also I'm trying to keep the little hands of my children off my Iwata's.  Wink [;)]

Confused [%-)]

Found my D/A, straight-line sander, air chisel, grinder, air drill, paint gun, body hammers, air hoses and regulators... but where is my automatic oiler and the jug of pneumatic air tool oil? Guess I could go back to the daily drip-in-tool method.  Sad [:(]

Jim,

I don't own any single-action airbrushes so I can't really help you there.
All of the ones you mentioned are probably good choices but I don't know the differences really.

I have a Badger 200 NH, and it is a good airbrush.  It is a single action version of Badger's Anthem 155 using the same needle and tip as the 155.  It certainly can spray wide areas well and can do reasonably fine lines too.  Free hand camo on a 1/72 scale Tiger tank is not a problem.  Anything out its reach in tha area could be easily handled by your Iwatas.

On the other hand, have you considered the venerable Paasche H?  You mention young sons.  Its spray pattern is not a lot different, if any, from the Badger, but the Paasche would probably be a bit simpler to use.  Additionally, its needle and tip would probably be more rugged in careless hands than those of the Badger.  Additionally, if you pick up the H set, it comes with small, medium, and large tips as well as color cup, regular siphon bottle, and gigantic siphon bottle, so overall, I would consider it to have a somewhat wider range of applications than the Badger.

Thanks guys for the input.

I will look into the Paasche... don't know why they slipped my mind. Dunce [D)]

Sure wish Badger bring back that $20 Garage Sale Vega 600.
