A more quiet compressor
Posted by Anthony on Wednesday, May 24, 2006 12:06 AM

Hi folks,

Could anyone please recommand a compressor that is more quiet. I currently use a Passhe D500. The noise is almost unbearable, especially I am now living in apartment. I am looking for somthing below US$300 (without tank) and hopefully has the noise volume of about a home sewing maching. Thanks.

Hey Anthony, how about well under your target price?

ABT TC-20 (without tank) $129.98

ABT TC-20T (with tank) $169.98 / I have this one and it is as quite as I could find. Wink [;)]

Seem them here at - AirBrush Depot

Another, even cheaper alternative: Box it in. Build a box to go around it, lined with foam rubber. Make sure there are small ventilation holes top and bottom that go through the foam.

If you want a quiet compressor then a tank is a definitive must. I have a 3.5l tank and it lasts quite a bit in between starting up again (the tank sits between 40 and 60 psi, I spray at 20 psi). It's so much better than having the engine humming all the time.

The D500 pulsates also so a new compressor would be a good idea.
Read this thread for what I recommended to another person.

a 6-pk Igloo ice chest would do nicely for thatBig Smile [:D] It's already insulated & being hardshelled, it'll help protect it from falling objects, etc. Not to mention portableWink [;)]

http://www.airbrushcity.com/121tk.htm That is the same one I have, and its very quiet. It does however, have a tank. You might be able to find one without, but its really very quite, and its small, not even 1 square foot.

Aww heck, just go out to the trucking company & ask for a 11.24.5 tire tube & get ya a tire adapter. Can't get any quieter than thatBig Smile [:D] There's enough air in there to keep ya going for a little while & ya can always borrow your lil sister's tire pump to air it up again. (or offer to buyher an ice cream if she pumps it up!!Whistling [:-^])Mischief [:-,]

Thanks guys, for the suggestion. I went to my LHS and the owner said he was going to carry an Iwata compressor soon and he'll give me a demonstration. It would cost me Cdn$270. Anyway, I'll see how good it will be. BTW Hippy-Ed, I cannot use my 6-pack ice box since it has already been occupied by a dozen of beerBig Smile [:D]. My sister is absolute anti-modeling Sad [:(] and she will not help for sure. I guess an alternative way is to get a exercise cycling machine, connect a belt to my old compressor rotary, hire a babe from a fitness center and have her paddle like hell to generate pressureBig Smile [:D].

Well, seein' how the Moosehead Lager is a priority, get another coolerWink [;)]
Bribe your sister to pump up the tire (sisters are idgits & are gullible too)
But, then again,, you could go down to the 24/7 GYM and talk to one of the babes about a free training cycle... of course it can be rigged to run your compressor but, then again, you might not be able to spray your modelsWhistling [:-^]

A Silentaire Super Silent 20A is what I’ve been using for years.  30dB is what I think the spec are.  I’d believe it.  I’ve never seen anyone have troubles with the compressor.  One time I laid my cell phone in the compressor and asked the guy on the other end of the line if he could here it.  He replied, “Do you have a compressor running?”
