If your dad's airbrush is a metal Badger (not one of the plastic ones) disassemble it, and soak everything EXCEPT THE AIR VALVE in laquer thinner overnight.  Get some pipe cleaners or "Interdental Brushes" (any drug store in the area where the tooth brushes and toothpaste is.  They are tiny little brushes for cleaning between your teeth).  Scrub it out good and then blow it out with compressed air.  It most likely has some dried paint in the nozzle or in the air passages in the head or body.

As to the fish eyes, it was probably moisture.  Those cans get so cold and the "Air" from them is so cold that they can make their own moisture when it hits warmer air.  Could also have been some oil or mold release as was already pointed out.

I should've mentioned the '17 had a white primer coat that the chromate went on over. It went on beautifully on the right, but not on the left. I don't remember which model of the Badger my dad's is off hand. It uses a paint jar and has a compressor for the air supply and has a water trap in the line.

Gee, I have one of them from Habor Freight. Cost me $5.00 but, it isn't a Badger thoughShy [8)]  Seriously, There are many different models of Badgers. I have the 175, This is a Double action bottom feeder which has jars & I can use a paint cup too. Think the 150 (?) is a single action (I'm sure the boyz'll correct meBig Smile [:D])
The white Primer went down smoothly? What type of paint was it? (Acryllic or enamel?) did you allow time for it to fully cure before painting the ZC?

Strip the paint with ELO (Easy Lift Off IIRC) then wash the parts with warm soapy water. Then use Plastic Cleaner or alcohol. You may have run into mold release agent from the molding process. I do not think Propel cans have water in them, but I could be wrong. Now for your Dad's brush, what kind is it, what is your air source, and approximate thinning ratio? I'm sure the boys will be along soon to help out.

2 major airbrushing problems

Hi everybody. I have 2 problems when I airbrush that I would be grateful to anyone for any suggestions at all. The first is when I went to spray the cockpit area to my B-17 (Model Master zinc chromate enamel) The finish did not go on well to one side of the fuselage. It has fish eyes and a little bit of a rough texture (kind of like orange peel but no where near as extreme). Is this caused by moisture getting into the paint? I am using a kind of cheap airbrush that is hooked to a compressed air can. The other parts I sprayed turned out fine. Was I just unlucky and got water in the paint from the air? The second question is whenever I use my dad's Badger airbrush I can never get paint to flow through it. Air will go through.. so will thinner.. paint however won't. I can thin the paint just fine and I have tried various needle settings. What is it that I'm doing wrong? If I can get paint to go through it the majority of my battle will be won! Thanks for the help!
