Two-colored Paint
Posted by rubaru on Friday, June 2, 2006 3:14 PM

Looking for some paint.  I saw a nice motorcyle the other day that had that weird paint on it that shows two different colors depending on how you look at it.  From one angle, it was GREEN...another angle was PURPLE.  Anyone know what this is and where to get some?  Preferably the kind I can run through an airbrush.

By the way...that was my first time typing in color.  I feel so talented now.  Big Smile [:D]

I've seen stuff like that on cars- even seen a 3 color scheme- gold, green and purple. Weirdest thing.

I do wonder how that is done.

I think those are called prismatic colors (i am probably wrong). The only manufacturer I know that sells them is Alclad II, the same guys who make the fantastic metal paints. This stuff is airbrush only. Good luck!

yeah that's the only one I know of also... go to www.alclad2.com and lookfor the prismatic colors... there's several different flavors... if you do decide to buy it you can get it from the LHS or www.squadron.com, or www.greatmodels.com .

I recommend reading the application section on the site if you want to use it too, and come here and ask questions if you need to.  It's not hard to apply there's just steps you need to take first.

I found the spot they list them on Alclads site... if you go to the home page, www.alclad2.com and click on the last link "Lacquers", then click in the word "Chrome" in the picture menu to the left it will show them at the bottom of the page.

Paint that changes colour

  • 201 Scarabeus blue to green
  • 202 Maple copper-red to green
  • 203 Jade green to gold
  • 204 Sapphire deep blue to ultra violet/purple
  • These are what they carry, the scarabeus blue to green looks REALLY good, it's in one of their photo galleries...
