Will I have damaged my needle?

No, it should be fine.

When in doubt, take the needle out and roll the end around on the tip of your finger, if its bent you will feel a snag, that or use a Q-tip, it will catch and pull off some of the fibers, both ways will tell you if its bent or not.

I did the same ting when I first got my Badger & thought I might've done some damage but, I didn't. I checked it the same way eizzle had described. I wouldn't worry too much about it. No harm, no foul
